Sam's Bagels on Larchmont. I am not from NYC, but my boyfriend's family is - and they now request Sam's when they come for breakfast. Trendy wannabes aside, the place is good, the staff is down-to-earth and very sweet. Sandwiches are great too.

Dude, if you can find anything in LA approaching the Bagels found in NYC, tell us and you've done your mitzva for the month.

Heres a neat story about NYC bagels, by the way, for those who have never been east of Laughlin.

I just returned from NYC and bagels will now be judged against the bagels my jewish father turned me on to in Manhattan. I will even have them shipped to me!! Does Bagel Nosh even compare to the fantastic NYC Bagels!!??

Bagel Nosh provides simple, consistent fare at reasonable prices. I go for the bagels (big and chewy), the coffee (consistently strong and serve-yourself), and the eggs that actually taste and look like eggs. Also, the staff will accommodate special orders. I ordered soft-scrambled eggs and they were done perfectly.

The main eating room is very sunny and clean and, on the weekdays, easily navigable. There is also a seating area to the left of the door, often overlooked, where reclusive-types can read their newspapers without drawing attention to themselves. Quite nice too if you're having a bad hair day.....

I highly recommend the solid breakfast fare here.

Hands down the best bagels in L.A. and if you're light on cash (as many college students are) they offer a variety of breakfast specials for under five bucks. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere is ideal for casual conversations and leisurely reading. Not to mention, the cute boy who works there on weekends is definitely an added bonus! :D
