Bite of Tantra
Tuesday, May 3, 2005 20:46The darkness was welcoming, but I often find darkness welcoming. Sunday afternoon, early dinner. Drinks before. The celebration of another 30th birthday, and we toasted to that. My drink: mango juice, expensive vanilla vodka. I carried it to our table, further into more darkness, and sat down in a nice ample booth where we could peruse menus. The samosas were like little puffed pastry triangles. They were like spanakopita. I loved them from the moment I read their ingredients, which included feta cheese, pomegranate seeds.
I abstained from the chocolate samosas offered for dessert. Decided that this would be a place to frequent when one wanted to retreat from the sun, the life one leads, into quiet, cavernous underbelly with nice lighting, rose petals in reflecting pools indoors, accompanied by good, strong drinks. And chocolate samosas…

Tantra was a great place for food & relaxation when it first opened, but they haven’t changed their menu since then, which is pretty boring–and you can tell that they haven’t changed the menu because all the menus are dog eared and dirty. Their black lentils are good, and I love the mango & paneer samosas, but in general, I’ve got no spark for Tantra anymore. You didn’t miss out on the chocolate samosas. I ordered them once, with much anticipation, but I found them to be very boring and hard to eat. And the chocolate creme brulee tastes like jello pudding, but the rice puddings are OK.
