No. Mole as in the Mexican sauce.
I was first introduced to mole by a friend when we had dinner in Mexicali, Mexico. I’ve been on the hunt for mole ever since.
I have found it at Guelaguetza which has two restaurant locations.
The original is located:
3337 W 8th St
Los Angeles, CA 90005
(213) 427-0601
They opened a larger venue located:
3014 W Olympic Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90006
(213) 427-0608
The larger venue often has a band playing lively music in the evenings. You are definitely here for the food and not romantic quiet conversation!
At both venues, you can buy the mole spice concentrate to make the sauce at home. They understandably are a little vague about what other ingredients go into turning it into the delicious sauce but I’ve diluted it up with chicken broth, garlic, oregano and tomato (fresh or paste). I then cook my chicken in it until it is falling off the bone.
I have also found the spice concentrate at the Grand Central Market in Downtown Los Angeles.
The other place I have found it served is at the Loteria Grill at the Farmer’s Market.
Loteria Grill
Farmers Market LA (Third and Fairfax)
6333 West 3rd Street - Stall 322
Los Angeles, CA 90036
Tel. (323) 930-221
I’m sure there are plenty of ethnic markets that sell the spice concentrates and other eateries that prepare it . However, being an Asian guy, I don’ t know those markets and restaurants!
So if you know of places and recipes let me (us!) know by leaving them in the passing comments. Thanks!

Cute graphic.
My current fav Mexican taco place, Tere’s Grill on Melrose in Hollywood has a great chicken in mole rojo plate.
Lares on Pico also has some great mole. Theirs is very thick and has a bit more sweetness than the mole they serve at Loteria.
