As a mexican-american I find Lares to be truly authentic. I travel from Valencia at least a couple times a year to enjoy the great food. I enjoy the bastardized mexican (americanized)as well but Lares is really a treat. I suggest you try it.

Authentic food with a transporting environment, & if Gino makes it in, the live flamenco is completely seductive. I have been going to Lares several times a months since a friend turned me on to it in '94. Juan is the best!
The entire staff is amazing...look forward to your reopening.

Well Sherry I would have to disagree with you on that one...but we all are entitled to our own tastes. Maybe you can enlighten me with some of your anti-westside knowledge?
Also a note to those who still want to try Lares for themselves...it is currently closed due to a fire in the kitchen so call before going.

Lares is completely average, you must not get out of the Westside very much if you think it is the best Mexican in Los Angeles

Another note about Lares, there is an upstairs and a downstairs each with their own bar and separate waiting list. I prefer the upstairs, it is roomier and lighter, and it's kind of nice to sit against the huge window on Pico.

I agree on the mole enchiladas, one of my favorites.
