Feast on This: The Edendale Grill (and Swill This: Mixville Bar)

Somehow the Edendale Grill has always been in my peripheral vision. Perhaps this happened when I made the move from Los Feliz to Koreatown. I should now be able to frequent The Edendale with the money saved on rent in that move–and after Friday night, I certainly plan to try.

My most special poetess friend AQ introduced me to The Edendale Grill as part of my birthday celebration. We sat outdoors next to the mosaic-laden fountain and settled in for a feast. We began with the hand-battered onion rings and jalapeno ketchup. No, wait–we really began with a bottle of red wine. Then onto the crispy onion rings with the delectable ketchup. From there, we went separate routes for the main course: AQ had the portabello mushroom gratin, which looked entirely rich and filling, while I took the pan roasted breast of chicken–from the menu–”with fingerling potatoes, bluelake beans, pancetta, shitake mushrooms and herb jus.” Oh, the pancetta! Succulent little bits next to the tender chicken, you really, really did me in. How I loved you. I loved you enough, and AQ her mushroom gratin, that we decided to partake in a half-bottle of wine, modest as we are, along with an Orange Bread Pudding that had some Jack Daniels-laced topping and a slathering of ice cream.

We mosied from our table over to the Mixville Bar, where we indulged in another two glasses of wine (yes, we should have just gone for the second bottle total, but there we were, a little high from the food, the wine, the cigarette smoke of others, and the sound of gurgling water underneath the roar of the crowd that populated the place a couple hours into our feasting) and more conversation. If you dream of lots of outdoor patio space, exquisite food and a nice variety of wines or cocktails, The Edendale Grill is your place. It’s mine, too.
