I sometimes sit places out due to that, too, but I was super glad I checked it out after all. I think you can surpass some of the crowd (in number or popularity factor) if you go early--it was nice, relaxing, and quiet at 6:30 on a Friday night (shifted to hoppin' around 9ish, I think).
