Nicotine-laced Beer for Smoke-free Bars

Great news for beer and cigarette fiends tired of being booted from smoke-free bars…
Today marks the European launch of NicoShot, “the world’s first smoking-cessation beer containing a shot of natural nicotine.”
“NicoShot is cigarette satisfaction in a beer without the smoke. For most smokers, three cans of NicoShot is comparable to an entire pack of conventional cigarettes. Best of all, there’s none of the tar or carbon monoxide the comes from burring tobacco. Similar to nicotine gum, NicoShot is considered nicotine replacement therapy that provides a steady, controlled release of nicotine. It can be used to relieve withdrawal symptoms at the beginning of quitting, to relieve urges from cigarette smoke (cravings) while quitting, or to avoid relapse months after quitting when a new stress or situation may trigger a strong urge to smoke. While NicoShot can lessen cravings, it is not a ‘cure’ for smoking. But it can help you make changes in your lifestyle without having to walk out of the bar for a quick smoke to deal with sudden withdrawal symptoms. Over time, when you are more comfortable being a nonsmoker, the use of nicotine beer can be reduced and then stopped.”
Marketing execs said today that the U.S. release of NicoShot is expected by July. Press release.

Okay, that’s just plain weird. What’s weirder is that for a long time there was an effort to add Folic Acid (one of the Bs) to alcohol to prevent birth defects … but the couldn’t because then it would make alcohol “healthy.”
And the FDA and ATF are going to allow this to be sold at bars?

This brings out something I meant to post last month… I went to a bar in Fullerton, and I came out smelling like cigarette smoke. Why? Because the bar allowed everyone to smoke inside. Was there an actual law passed forbidding smoking in bars in California or are smoke-free bars just a trend that took off here?
Oh, and for the record, I have nothing against people who smoke. I just don’t think I should have to smell like cigarettes because others are addicted to smoking. While I don’t think I’ll ever go for a mug of NicoShot, it good to know I won’t reek of smoke if tons of people are drinking it around me.

If you’d made me guess, I would have bet that “NicoShot” was a Saturday Night Live sketch. Three cans equals a pack of cigarettes? I’M BARFING!

Pauline-
While there was a law passed about smoking in bars, part of the law stated that if the bar was owned and operated by the same person, smoking is still allowed. This is why you are alllowed to smoke in bars such as the garage sized Tiki-Ti in Silverlake.
