I guess these are a little more high-end, but these are my faves
-Grilled Cheese Thursdays at Campanille
-Doughnut Wednesday at Grace
-Crudo at Il Grano
and of course
-Mexican food, mexican food, mexican food!! Burrito King, Malo, Mexican Village, etc. Load up on as much guacamole as possible.

I’m also moving soon; my hit list was basically Din Tai Fung and Apple Pan. If I were heading to the Midwest I’d be stuffing my face full of fresh veggies and fish as much as possible - maybe someplace for sushi? Great meat/burgers aren’t hard to find in Iowa (where I grew up, and I imagine it’s culinarily similar to Indiana) but things like that muffaletta are all too rare.

Blue Plate in Santa Monica for brunch
Cafe de la Plage in Venice for brunch
GR/eats (the Giant Robot restaurant on Sawtelle)
Thai Beer on Washington (Venice/MDR)
The Counter Burger in Santa Monica

And more obscure places:
Happy Family in Rowland Heights
Sallim in Koreatown
(both of these restaurants are vegetarian buffets and worth the experience!)

I guess I wasn’t very detailed, so here’s the scoop:

I’m moving to Indiana for the next 2 years, but I’ll be back to LA to visit in between, so this will NOT be the last you’ll hear of me. :)

Based upon the number of suggestions I receive by Sunday, I will start mapping out spots that are your must hits before I leave. My budget is small, but I don’t mind the occasional splurge. So far though, there’s already more restaurants on the list than I’ll have time to go, but keep the ideas coming. Thanks Jonah, Tanvi, and Chris for getting your suggestions in early. I’ll definitely hit a few places you mentioned.

For me, I love breakfast in LA. There are a few places that I would really miss, but if I had to narrow it down, I would visit at least one of these three:

Jinky’s
Hugo’s
John O’groats

A few other places I would go: Mao’s Kitchen, Akbar, Zankou, Hamakawa, Loteria Grill or Moishe’s at the Farmer’s Market, Carbon Grill at the Santa Monica Sunday Farmer’s Market, Urth, One of the Ethipopian places on Fairfax, Border Grill Happy Hour… more will come to me.
