L.A. Makeup Artists B.Y.O. Sweet Lady Jane Painted Cake

I spotted this gee-or-jus cake in megpi’s photostream on flickr earlier today. As some of you may know, megpi is a pastry cook at a new restaurant in Hollywood, and she keeps a photo diary of her life at work.
Because this cake is unlike other desserts she’s uploaded, I asked her about it, and she replied:
…it’s from sweet lady jane on melrose. We get tons of their cakes brought in for birthdays but I had never seen a cake painted like this before. A party of 13 makeup artists had come in with it and we were quite in awe.
In the specialty section on the SLJ website there’s an additional photo of a two-tiered painted cake. Very pretty! I also just like the idea of the kitchen staff admiring the cake and snapping a photo before it’s plated and served.
UPDATE: The painted cake photo is no longer on the SLJ site. megpi’s snap says it all anyway.
