Run to Big Lots–NOW

Um, yeah, Big Lots. I could do five posts a day just on what you find at Big Lots and the 99c Only Store. Forget it. I don’t have time. Still…
Since my favorite chocolate chips for baking and just pouring down my throat have long been by Guittard , the 130 year old San Francisco Cholatier, imagine the squeak my sneakers made on the linoleum when I spotted Guittard Chocolate Sauces at the closeout giant Big Lots–for $1.98! The sauces come in four varieties: White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and Caramel.
I’m not kidding, this is the best chocolate sauce I have ever tasted. It’s better than the good stuff you can get at the super market, it’s better than my wife’s hallowed Sander’s Sauce. The dark chocolate is fudgy and actually tastes like chocolate. The caramel sauce is actually thick, sticky caramel sauce! This is seriously good, and I can’t figure out why it’s at a closeout store. Granted, your local store may have different stock than mine, but if you get some of this onto your homemade summer sundae, you’ll scream “Thank you LA Foodblogging!”

Hmm, I applaud your courage.
Actually, canned goods or stuff in a jar might be okay.
I recent bought a 10 year old roll of lifesavers at the 99 cent store in Hollywood … and some chocolates at Big Lots that were more like chalklots.
Dangit … now I’m curious! I’m off to Big Lots on my lunchbreak tomorrow.

I had no idea that anything edible could be carried out of Big Lots. Dark Chocolate is one of my vices, I’ll have to check it out.
BTW, I tried chocolate sauce on Green Tea Ice Cream this weekend, a definite winning combo.

That one’s okay, but it’s pretty “yorky” if you follow. Classy suburbanites such as us drop in on the hoi polloi at the La Canada Flintridge Big Lots, 2243 Foothill Boulevard. That’s where I snapped the catalogue shot you see.
And while Cybele is correct, it does takes some bravery to put a closeout purchase into your mouth, I’ve been doing it for years. You do end up kissing some frogs, but you can also find worthwhile imports that never took off, lowbrow third world imitations of US Corporate brands, and crazy-assed inventions of said corporations.
