Reddi Chick
Thursday, July 7, 2005 14:39Greasy goodness is the name of this rotisserie chicken and rib place in the Brentwood Country Mart on the corner of 26th Street and San Vicente. My friend and I venture there about twice a year because a) that is about how often he is in town and b) our arteries can only hold so much fat.
At Reddi Chick, you have the option of rotisserie chicken, ribs, or fried seafood. This time, I went for Earl’s Seafood combo, which consists of scallops, shrimp, fish, and clams. Suffice to say I’ll go for the chicken and ribs next time. The seafood had a not-fresh taste to it probably due to the fact that it isn’t as popular. My friend had the giant-sized Chicken and Rib Basket, which consists of half a chicken and four large ribs. With Reddi Chick, the chicken is almost always freshly roasted due to the high turnover and therefore juicy and moist. The ribs are also full of natural flavor and not dry. It may not be the best chicken and ribs that I’ve had, but they are certainly quite good.
You have a choice of fries, coleslaw, or potato salad, but you might as well go for broke and get the fries. Why? Because the fries are usually freshly fried and covered with flavored salt. You also get plenty of barbeque sauce on the side. So far, it seems like a generic barbeque joint. However, what makes me come back again and again to Reddi Chick is the combination of the fries, meat, and sauce. It’s something about ingesting an unhealthy amount of salt and fat that just gives you a very satisfying meal.
Parking for the Country Mart can be tricky around the lunch hour, but there is also a bank parking lot nearby. Be sure you bring cash, since Reddi Chick doesn’t accept anything else. Your meal will average around $8 with the chicken and rib basket being $10. Finally, get an Orange Bang drink from the smoothie place across the way. The foamy orange flavor offers the best way to wash down your meal.

I’ve been going to this place since I was a kid, and now I take my kids there…the tasty combination of the chicken, fries and bbq sauce is just grub, and I totally agree - Orange Bang completes this meal like no soda could.

next time get the lemonade. That has been my meal there since the early 50’s. Half Chicken Fires and lemonade - - heaven right here on the west side

I’ve been getting the ribs there - because there is no other place where to buy food near by. The place sucks
