Licorice Finally Available Online

It was people like me who laughed at the Wright Brothers too. Maybe someday, the joke will be on me, and the licorice industry will have layoffs, bankruptcies and labor strikes too.
The Glendale section of yesterday’s Times tells of the Colburn brothers, who have set down roots in Glendale and opened LicoriceExchange.com, an internet retailer of international licorice. Their ultimate aim is to be rich, rich, rich, pushing licorice items into little-known coffe houses like Starbucks, but starting out by promoting themselves at Glendale’s local caffeineries.
Though the site devotes a page to the health benefits of licorice, it’s an online candy store, but with only a few items that couldn’t be found in dozens of other places, and that’s just in Glendale. The most interesting part are their international offerings, but you will only see the items if you click on the country of origin. The site’s navagation will improve over time I just know it. Go there if you love licorice, go there if you can’t get to Cost Plus World Market, go there if you grew up eating Ireland’s “Oatfield Toffee, with a creamy blend of licorice and toffee”. (BTW, if you do get those, save me one, I wanna try it.)

Ooh, another local candy dealer to visit! I hope they improve their selection because I agree that most of that is stuff that I pick up at Cost Plus (and I got my Haribo Licorice Wheels on sale for a better price last weekend). But I love licorice and I’m happy to see someone championing it.
Regarding Nestle - what’s really odd is that Nestle recently bought Organic/Fair Trade chocolate company Green & Black, so they know that it’s possible to make a profit without enslaving people. What was also disturbing about the article is that it mentions Cargill as one of the other three offenders, and they own the chocolate company I love, Wilbur.
