Son of Stan’s Donuts Rolls Into Thousand Oaks
Friday, July 22, 2005 12:00Stan’s Donuts in Westwood has a major fan following after 40 years in business, this much I have learned in the few years that I’ve lived in Los Angeles. So perhaps it was sort of inevitable that Stan’s son Scott would join the family business and open his own donut shop in another part of town.
About two months ago Scott opened the doors to the first satellite branch of his dad’s shop in Thousand Oaks. The locals are already going crazy for the things, according to the Chowhound boards, and Ventura County Star, full story.
The shop prides itself on having all sorts of doughnuts, many developed by Stan. There are pretzel-shaped doughnuts, blueberry cinnamon rolls, glazed and frosted doughnuts and some with coconut, sprinkles or nuts on top. Jan said there are about 25 other varieties yet to be introduced.
Sounds a little tough to find however…
Anyone looking for the Stan’s Doughnuts sign hanging outside the shop at 658 Moorpark Road will need to wait a few months. The shop is up and running, but the Bermans plan to redecorate in September and are having a new sign designed. The store still has “Master’s Donuts” from its previous owners above the door outside.

One of my managers used to bring in stan’s doughnuts a few mornings a week. My god are their peanut butter donuts good.

I’ve been wondering about the peanut butter pocket doughnuts! I’ve also been wondering when I’ll be able to ingratiate myself with a donut lover driving in from Westwood or Thousand Oaks…

Being new to the area, my wife and I had never heard of Stan’s doughnuts. However, we along with our two year old son, are doughnut fans. We are from the Upstate New York area where there are some pretty decent doughnut outlets to be found, including some of the local grocery stores. These are acceptable to be sure, but the doughnuts that we had at Stan’s are far beyond acceptable and frankly, taken as a whole are the best that we have ever had. We found breadth of variety and level of quality to be excellent. The owners are very friendly and quite helpful in assisting in making selections. To be sure, it is not an everyday treat, but it is certainly a special treat to be savored occasionally. If you are in the area, you certainly will be gratified if you stop in and sample their fare.

Name your family’s favorite picks! I’ve never been but I’d like to know what I should try.
