Iso [am a] Creative Asian

A great place to study (or blog) with wi-fi connection is Iso Creative Asian Cafe near the UCLA campus on Gayley. [In a previous life, it was known as Relaxstation.]

My epicurean partner in crime and study buddy took me here a little while ago. We got there a little after lunch and stayed until right before dinner. So if you do the math, we were there for probably 5-6 hours straight.

Once there, we were welcomed with a plethora of choices – boba [aka bubble tea], coffees, fruit juices, and more. I finally decided upon and slurped up my lychee slushie, and opted to go without the little black pearls of tapioca and drink it straight. It was absolutely refreshing in the warm LA weather.
Named as an “Asianâ€? cafe, you would expect the place to be Asian influenced with the décor and menu items – and you’ll find the antique Asian looking furniture as well as some Japanese/Korean/Chinese… food and drink choices. We ordered the gyoza and spicy tuna rolls as a snack to tie us over before heading out into Westwood for dinner. The “snackâ€? also came with miso soup with tofu – not a great dish on a hot day. For a small internet coffee/tea/boba/fill in the blank with your favorite nonalcoholic beverage cafe, the gyoza and spicy tuna rolls definitely hit the spot on the yum-factor.

A note of caution: We studied upstairs which can get pretty warm, and there didn’t seem to be any air conditioning. You can do what we did and prop the oscillating fan right next to you to help cool you down.

*Also, here’s a coupon I got in my email inbox - please feel free to use if you’d like. It expires on 8/15:
