Joseph Schmidt ChocolatesI figure the Hershey folks are just going through the phone book in San Francisco and having purchased Scharffen Berger now they’re plowing through the rest of the S’s and have picked up Joseph Schmidt Chocolates.

Hershey is creating a new subsidiary called Artisan Confections Company which will include Scharffen Berger.

Personally, I’ve never really cared for Schmidt chocolates, the chocolate shells are too crackly (I think because they’re molded instead of dipped).

I wonder if this means that Hershey will move south and maybe take over See’s. I know See’s hardly qualifies as artisan, but it’s defintely a brand that could be taken nationwide.
