Market Report For 9/7/05
Wednesday, September 7, 2005 11:33Hi there, Suzy here with first market report from the Wednesday Farmer’s market. I make a weekly trip to the Santa Monica market and hopefully will provide some useful tips on what’s in season, and what is fading out.
This week:
Saw lots of: tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, cantaloupe, eggplant, zucchini, Chilis, cucumber
Starting to see less of: Peaches
Saw very few because (season ending): corn (sad!!), plums, nectarines
Starting to see more of: Apples, grapes, eggplants, celery, pears
Saw none: cherries, strawberries
I picked up some peaches, grapes, apples, green beans, and pears.

That sounds like an orange alert for peaches. I better get some.

At Saturday’s Farmer’s Market one stand was selling strawberries that looked nice. (They were a little spendy though.) Heirlooms look like their slowing down a bit at Saturday’s market. We’ve been going every Sat. for about a month and this Saturday’s tomatoes weren’t as fresh and tasty.
We also picked up spinach, eggplants, beets, pluots, and these amazing heirloom Honeycrisp apples, and rhubarb!
