You know how restaurant openings go, so don’t choux the messenger if it doesn’t happen, but an exec at Muginoho USA just sent me an email confirming that Beard Papa Sweets Cafe is having its “official grand opening” at the Hollywood and Highland Center on Friday, Sept. 23rd.

[update] According to reader Kim the opening date has slipped to Saturday October 8th. We will see…

Beard Papa is great! I waited on line for the first NY opening, and it was well worth it. The “su-creme” were warm, flakey, and sweet. These are hands-down the best cream puffs you’ll ever have!
If you’re in NY and can’t make it to the Upper West Side location, go to the “secret” location in Midtown in Zaiya Cafe on 40th St by GCT.

Insider NY tips — very cool.
Looking forward to reading the first lafoodbloggers’ taste report. Don’t forget to mention how long you had to wait in line…
Much as I’m dying to try them, I loathe queueing.
Might wait ’till next week or so…

    f.y.i.

BPSC is not opening tomorrow. I went by today (Thurs. afternoon), and while they are busily working on the place, chances are it will be a few more days before the doors officially open. Close, but no puffs yet. : (

Might they be open today? (Sunday). I will call. I’m going to the Mullholland dog park anyway.

This really needs an updated posting. I just drove down to H/H to enjoy some much hyped cream puff only to find a wooden Papa Beard mocking my excitement. Wish I read the comments before braving the traffic. Plus they are giving away a steel thermos for the first 5 days.

Oh cripe. Apologies to you, Beopenguin. I thought the comments would be enough. Partially in fear of over-hyping the joint, I neglected to post an individual entry about further *ucking delays. Very sorry. Thanks for the tip about the thermos!

Good point, sorry Beopenguin, your refund is in the mail…

Papa is going to get a punch in the face pretty soon if he doesn’t get his act together…

No worries. The site has a 99.99999% sucess rate of reccomended places being wonderful and of course being “open”. Thanks to you guys, I’ve been trying so many new places for dinner. So don’t mind me, I was just let down from craving a cream puff, but leaving with a stale Tollhouse brownie. I should have gone to Rocky Mountain, but the bear is just a reminder of what I’ll look like if I continue to follow this crusade for cream puffs.

Hey, so I was just told to arrive any time after 10AM on Saturday. No word on closing time.

FYI, I was just at H/H, and Beard Papa is open! I was wondering whether they’d have a soft opening before their big grand opening on Saturday, and they most certainly are, so make haste. I wish I had read about the thermos thing though since they certainly didn’t offer me one by default, and I had no idea. Oh well. I’ll go back tomorrow again anyway.

Woo hoo, thanks, Bobbo! Someone told me in passing that you get a free thermos if you buy at least dozen puffs. Can’t confirm that at 11PM…

So, what flavors of cream were they serving when you went?

Looks like the thermos thing is true for the first 100 customers to buy at least a dozen puffs on each of the first five days after the Grand Opening. So far, they only have the regular vanilla flavor with ‘coming soon’ listed on the board for Green Tea, Chocolate, Caramel, Coffee, Royal Milk Tea, and Organic Sesame.

I finally had the cream puff today and it’s so so so so so so good. I also got the thermos. Thanks Papa.
