Röckenwagner’s Stammtisch is coming to a close on 9/25/05. As we mentioned before on la.foodblogging, Röckenwagner is hosting a fixed price, three course meal served family style for $20 a person.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We were suprised at the lack of people taking advantage of the deal, we had a choice of seats at their three long communal tables. We started with some of Rockenwagner’s famous bread, then were served a delicious bread salad. I’m not the hugest bread salad fan, but the inclusion of fresh endive, and a subtle vinegar dressing led me to clean my plate.

The second course was the Pasta Al Arrabiata, which was angel hair served in a deep ceramic bowl. I was impressed with the cherry tomatoes in the dish, which were served whole, but peeled! I know that peeling tomatoes is fairly easy, but doing that to cherry tomates has to be a bit tedious. Oh well, someone else’s tedium was for my great enjoyment.

Our salmon came out next. It was a generous serving accompanied by a side of mashed potato and spinach. The entree was delicious, the salmon had a nice mellow butter sauce and was cooked exactly how I like it, slightly crispy on the outside, yet moist and steamy on the inside.

The online menu said that dessert would be apricot cake, but when we got to the restaraunt, we saw that the menu had rubarb tart listed. With rubarb being one of my fiancee’s favorite baked good ingredients, she was more than happy to go without the apricot. The tart was a nice end to a well balanced meal (although hardly Atkins friendly with bread, bread, pasta, potatoes, and dessert).

In addition to the bargain menu price, we also ordered one of the wine specials, a carafe of Savignon Blanc for $14, I believe (although it could have been a couple dollars more).

Although the meal, wine, tax and tip add up, it is still a great bargain for delicious food from one of the top restaraunts in town. If you’re looking for somewhere new to taste, this is a great opportunity (for one more week!)
