LA Thai Cafe Storefront

The rain had let up a bit, so in between downpours on my circuitous route home, I happened upon Los Angeles Thai Cafe. The most enticing thing about it from the outside was that I could make an easy left off of Fountain to get into the parking lot, where there were actual empty slots. I parked, jumped over a few puddles and entered.

Los Angeles Thai Cafe is a nice, small, bright and clean place in a mini-mall that boasts a water store and a tropical fish store among others. The cafe itself houses a small aquarium of a few dappled-color fish and the sound of running water, coming from a rock arrangement with a fountain and lighted crystal ball on the counter makes it a peaceful little spot.

I ordered Spring Rolls and Spicy Noodles with beef. I waited, watched the traffic on Fountain, and listened to another downpour. When the food was ready, I took leave, only waiting until I was headed down Virgil to get into the Spring Rolls. Unfortunately, I was in the mood for fresh Spring Rolls, and should have asked instead of assuming that’s what I’d get. I got instead some delicious fried egg rolls that tasted very peppery and oily. It made for an excellent cold, wet weather snack while driving.

At home, I ate some of the Spicy Noodles dish, but found that the noodles were somewhat clumpy and there was really no spice to it. The beef was nondescript as well. It tasted much better with the hot red sauce dumped over it.

If you’re headed down Fountain Avenue and feel like giving it a shot, I wouldn’t dismiss the idea–the good, friendly service is a plus, and I’d recommend trying out more of the dishes on the menu–but if you have some time on your hands, you might as well detour over to nearby Thai town and indulge there instead.
