The Cookbook Critic, etc.
Saturday, November 5, 2005 14:24On our way back from our weekly trip to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market, K. and I heard Colleen Flippo on KCRW’s program, Good Food. Colleen has a great website called The Cookbook Critic that reviews cookbooks, tests recipes, and provides yummy recipes as well.
This week’s haul at the Farmer’s Market included:
Empire Apples
Turnips
Carrots
Potatoes (We’re roasting a chicken and root vegetables later this week)
Rhubarb
I saw some nice looking heirloom tomatoes from one stand. Others had multitudes of squash, persimmons, pomegranates, and other autumnal favorites.

I always, without fail, miss Good Food. And despite the fact that I subscribe to the podcast, I rarely listen to it. So, thanks for linking the Cookbook Critic, especially since she’s working her way through recipes from a book I’ve thumbed through a few times now.

The woman from Chow Magazine was interesting too, she talked about the marketing genius behind pomegranate juice.

I was able to find rhubarb late this summer as well, but these stalks are thicker and seem more like rhubarb “should” be. I can’t wait to stew some and serve with icecream!
