After 21 years, Röckenwagner is closing its doors in Santa Monica. I have written about Röckenwagner here and have eaten there a number of times, both for dinner and their hard-to-beat happy hour.

The last day for them is Saturday, January 14, 2006, I would highly suggest trying to at least make it over for a happy hour before they move on to other endeavors.

There are a few ventures that will be continuing the Röckenwagner lineage. Currently, construction is going on at Abbot Kinney and San Juan, where the 3 Square Bakery & Café will open. They will be serving Röckenwagner pastries, breads and pretzel products, and there will be an indoor-outdoor café serving contemporary diner fare. Should be open early 2006.

They are also working on a catering kitchen and bakery which will continue to pump out the famous Röckenwagner goodies for us to enjoy.
