SF Chron: Hatfields Head to LA
Wednesday, January 11, 2006 13:19Bay Area chefs Quinn and Karen Hatfield are leaving San Francisco’s popular Cortez restaurant to open a new place in West Hollywood called, fittingly enough, Hatfield. San Francisco Chronicle has the story:
Former Chronicle Rising Stars Quinn and Karen Hatfield plated their last dish at Cortez (550 Geary St., near Taylor) on New Year’s Eve. The chef and pastry chef are headed to West Hollywood, where they plan to open their own restaurant in the spring. The 50-seat place will be called Hatfield.
“We have really had a blast in San Francisco, but L.A. is home,” the Hatfields said in an e-mail. “Hopefully our L.A. customers will be as open-minded and loyal as all our S.F. supporters.”
I had dinner at Cortez early last year and really enjoyed it. We shared a handful of beautifully prepared small plates and finished with milkshake shots for two. They’ve previously worked for Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Wolfgang Puck and David Bouley.
