I saw on LA.com this morning that Ben Ford is opening a new local restaurant in Culver City next month. This is happy news for me, Ford’s Chadwick, which used to be on Beverly, was a terrific place to go for a special meal.

Ford’s style, and his restaurant name, was patterned after Alan Chadwick’s methods.

He named it for the gardens at U.C. Santa Cruz—gardens that were started 30 years ago by the late organic gardening guru Alan Chadwick. Ford is a follower of Chadwick’s methods which include something called the “French Intensive” style. Using raised beds, things are grown abundantly in a small space, while still using sustainable practices.

Ford’s new restaurant in Culver City will be called Ford’s Filling Station. This isn’t the first Filling Station though. Ford opened his first Filling Station in Tulsa, Oklahoma and has kept his tradition of using organic, fresh and in season ingredients.

I’ll be keeping my eye on the opening date, which was originally scheduled for October 2005.

Oh yeah, I suppose that you can’t mention Ben Ford without pointing out that he is Harrison Ford’s son. Ben Ford is no celebrity chef though, he is the real deal.

The menu descriptions from Ford’s Tulsa outpost sound very similar to what Blair’s serves up in Silver Lake.
