No more cigar night at Schatzi’s?
Tuesday, January 31, 2006 13:10Yesterday I called to make reservations for cigar night at Schatzi’s, which used to be held on the first Monday of every month. The Austrian on the other end of the phone seemed confused, since it had been cancelled and there had not been one for the last four months. When I pointed out that the website still advertised it, he said that they only update the website every six months, apparently to trim any useful information from it and add more Austrian music and flash animation.
Had anyone gone to a Schatzi’s cigar night before its unceremonious cancellation? How was it? Am I missing out on anything?
Schatzi’s is still a pleasant dining experience even without cigars. The patio is lovely, although you might not want to sit too close to the outdoor bar if you hate karaoke. I’ve never had an entree I didn’t like here–steaks, seafood, it’s all good. If you think you have the necessary stomach capacity, try the Governor’s Wienerschnitzel.
The real key to dining at Schatzi’s is not to order extraneous courses. This is not because the appetizers and desserts are not delicious, because they are, but because if you fail to order an appetizer, they will bring one over to your table for free. Also, whether or not you order dessert, they will bring you a tiny cup of Charley Temmel ice cream anyway, just to be nice.
As you exit Schatzi’s, you will see a large Terminator poster which has been altered to read, “You’ll be back.” Hopefully cigar night will be back too.
