Zinfandel Proposed as the State Wine?

Without anything else to do in Sacramento, State Sen. Carole Migden introduced a bill last week to make Zinfandel the official state wine.
The Zinfandel grape, brought to the Golden State by pioneers during the Gold Rush, warrants the distinction because it is inextricably twined with California’s history, the San Francisco Democrat asserts.
Two comments. First, why not continue riding the Pinot Noir bandwagon, launched by the Santa Barbara-centric Sideways? Second, how about ammending the bill to designate the official wine as White Zinfandel?
