Where are you eating this weekend? April 7, 2006 Edition.

Where are you eating this weekend? Looks like there could be a little rain in store for us, hopefully not too much. The Wednesday Santa Monica Farmer’s Market was thinly attended, both by the vendors and the customers. Hopefully the weekend markets will be in full effect, especially since the spring crops are starting to show up, including tasty strawberries!
What are your plans?

I may be pushing a return to Monte Alban for some mole or barbacoa. I would also like to try out Raku.
Breakfast will probably be at home and I am continuing my bread baking experiments with my first homemade sourdough starter.

We’re going to try Literati II after checking out the Gustav Klimt exhibit at the LACMA.

I have been to Literati a number of times, but still haven’t made it to Literati II. Let us know how it is, I have heard mostly good things about it.

After reading your post about The Counter, we’re going to try it out for lunch before seeing Quidam. We’re hoping that both the meat eaters and vegetarians will come away satisfied!

After reading my review here for Tung Lai Shun (Islamic Chinese), some friends are taking us there.
It’s 8:30 am Saturday, my girls are still asleep, and I’m finally roasting the chicken we were too tired to cook on Thursday night.

LB, The Counter is great. We’ve been there lots of times and it never disappoints. The burgers are big and juicy and all of the ingredients are top notch. Note that the burger is always prepared medium rare, so make a note to your server if you want it otherwise.
Also, try the sweet potato fries with the garlic aioli sauce. Fantastic!

Thanks, Mara. We did enjoy The Counter, although the veggie burger wasn’t quite was we expected. I assumed it would be more like “fake meat” to match the other burgers. But it was tasty enough; mine with grilled pineapple, mushrooms and ginger soy sauce and my husband’s with Danish blue cheese, caramelized onions, greens and honey mustard sauce. My meat-eater friends were pretty happy with their burgers; they’re not very adventurous eaters, though. The sweet potato fries were delicious, and the shakes had real fruit in them! We’ll definitely try it again.
