Amandine Patissiere Breakfast

Amandine, my Wilshire breakfast heaven. Whisks me away to a quaint Paris Bakery…

…OK, I’m not that sappy, but I do get a good feeling from head to toe and back up to my tummy when I have a relaxing weekend breakfast at Amandine.

Amandine Sign

Some folks come for Amandine’s famed baked goods, others for their tasty omelettes. The big secret are the potatoes au gratin, and you should know that it’s not uncommon for Amandine to run out of this cheesey carb-y side dish, so get there early.

Potatoes

The omelettes are great, and Amandine offers high quality cheeses, beyond cheddar and swiss, as fillings.

Omelette

My wife thinks that the chocolate croissants are some of the best around, with a nice balance of light flakey pastry and chocolate.

Pastry Inside

Being a French bakery, Amandine takes their coffee seriously. Strong French roast brews in their pots. I always ask for the coffee in a to-go cup, otherwise they serve it in those large, wide rim coffee mugs. Who thinks that these mugs are a good idea? Basic laws of thermodynamics force the coffee from hot to cold in about one minute. I like my coffee hot.

Fruit Bowl

Even their fruit bowls are beautiful and not stacked with the fruit bowl killer: melon. Berries, banana, oranges and a little melon on the bottom.

Parking can be tight, there is a small lot in back and parking on the side streets. Amandine’s tables fill up fast and can be cramped. Other than that, it’s on my list of top breakfast places in town.

Lovely photos — nice report. I agree, melon is the filler (appetite killer) in most fruit salads. All we want is plenty of the good stuff!

And what’s wrong with wanting to be whisked away to a Parisian boulangerie/patisserie? Any place that’s redolent of the best and most charming aspects that Paris has to offer is fine by me.

    Memories… *sigh*

Ha, nothing wrong with wanting to be whisked away, but Amandine isn’t that authentic of an experience (although they do have at least one French speaking employee).

I haven’t tried their cakes yet, but the ones in the case always look amazing. My birthday is coming up…

So now I’m wondering — where is everyone’s favourite slice of Paris in LA??

I know this is going to sound corny, but I quite like Morel’s at The Grove (for lunch on a sunny day). Then again, I *always* order a glass of Cote de Rhone and the cheesy/gruyere-y mushroom crepes… Haven’t branched out to sample their other offerings, but the cheese plates are excellent.

    Nice Frenchy bistro vibe, there.

thanks for the tip at amandine. i always pass by, but don’t know if i should stop. i’m always up for a great french boulangerie. my favorite so far is still la dijonaise for a regular croissant and bread bar for a chocolate croissant and pain au raisin. but i will surly check this place out.
