Last Sunday (April 23rd) was the 21st annual Santa Barbara Kite Festival, held on the Great Meadow at Santa Barbara City College’s west campus, 11am-4pm, overlooking the beautiful harbor and breakwater.

It’s such a fun event. Hundreds of kites of all shapes, sizes and colors to be seen.

One of the most popular events held throughout the day is the “tail chase for children as children in various age groups try to catch the tail of a kite as it dips and dives through the air. The winners were given a coupon to the local Coldstone Creamery. See, I knew I could make this post food-relevant!

Admission to the festival and parking on West Campus for the event is free. Hope to see you up there next year!

With summer approaching, the Santa Barbara events are starting to pop up. When I lived up there, every summer weekend offered a different ethnic/themed diversion.

Hey I was at the Kite Festival too with my nephew. There were 3 festivals in SB on Sunday: Earth Day, Car Show, and Kite Festival. I went to all and I gotta say the Kite Festival was the best. On a food note, there was a vendor named Miss Irene’s from Beverely Hills who had Hot Dogs, Vegan Dogs and really good french fries that took a long time to make.

Huh! Wish I’d known about all those other events. My guy digs cars.

Also, I reckon good french fries are worth waiting for. I brought a sandwich up there with me, but mebbe next year I’ll check out the food vendors.

thanks heaps for the heads up!
