Quick Shots from Around Town

As I have said before, we’re not the only game in town. There are a number of great blogs out their sharing their secret dining spots with the rest of us. Here are some recent goodies:

Potatomato visits Auntie Em’s

It’s basically a house with a small narrow yard turn to patio cafe. Great food, great vibe~ I Love the cactus, love the retro kitschy table cloth and plates~ Too bad the place is at middle of nowhere.

Colleen Cuisine Tames The Hungry Cat

Overall, I thought The Hungry Cat was good, but like many Goin/Lentz restaurants, I’m afraid the media coverage hypes it so much that you go in expecting to be dazzled. Dazzled I wasn’t, but happy and satiated… yes.

The Great Taco Hunt goes crazy for Manny’s El Loco

Everything went well together and the tortillas held all the structure of the tacos together without a hint of collapsing. As far as the salsa roja it was a little too tomatoey with not alot of kick but I’m not sure a spicy salsa was needed with these tacos.

Foodie Universe Sambas over to Cafe Brasil

Cafe Brasil is casual and low-key, with wooden benches and tables that remind me of a barbeque restaurant (but nicer) and do-it-yourself counter ordering and pickup. Vegans and vegetarians alike enjoy Cafe Brasil because they can eat the veggie platter; others may enjoy the many meat dishes, and everyone is sure to delight in the fried plantains and the best rice I’ve ever had

Erin’s Kitchen Steps out to Indian

The beer’s cheap, the floor’s grimy, and the food’s flavorful, a bit greasy, and, as the article asserts, much better than anything you’d find at your typical American pub.

    Thanks for these links, Jonah.

I think Colleen was too soft on the Hungry Cat. She declined to mention how much lighter her wallet was after the Hungry Cat experience. “Happy and satiated…” Yes, but was it worth the exorbitant costs? That Lobster roll ($22) and the pub burger look revolting.

Everything I’ve read about this place — esp Zteve’s detailed and seemingly accurate write up — urges me to give it the big swerve.

I’m not sure I liked Eagle Rock being called ‘the middle of nowhere’. I would have told the author directly but apparently she had some pretty bad feedback on that post as well. :\
