How to eat cheap and fast at McCormick & Schmick’s
Wednesday, May 3, 2006 11:55Heretofore, we never put McCormick & Schmick’s into the lunch rotation because we thought it was too pricey, with most lunch dishes in the $12-15 range. However, it turns out that not only can you order from an array of sandwiches from $7-10, there are also four to five daily lunch specials that can be had for the low, low price of $5.99.
The specials change daily; today’s were a meatloaf sandwich, a chicken teriyaki bowl with broccoli and sticky rice, linguine with fresh Manila clams, and gnocchi with mushrooms in a Gorgonzola cream sauce. The venerable Sifu gave his culinary stamp of approval to the linguine, and I enjoyed my gnocchi as well. The portions are just the right size for a filling lunch along with the bread basket that comes to your table.
Another nice feature is that if you tell your server you are there for the “45-minute lunch” when you are seated and then order the lunch specials, they will ensure your table is in and out within 45 minutes. This is definitely useful if you arrive during the height of the lunch hour and need to get back to work rather than linger over a three-martini lunch.
If you want to eat even cheaper at McCormick & Schmick’s, hit their famous 3:30-6:30 happy hour, where you can get a burger, oyster shooters or fish tacos, among other items, for $1.95. Of course, you have to restrain yourself from blowing the money you’re saving on dinner on too many $5 beers, but it’s still a pretty good deal.
McCormick & Schmick’s, 2101 Rosecrans Avenue, El Segundo, CA 90245. Other locations in Beverly Hills, Pasadena and Los Angeles.

Good tip, I have enjoyed their happy hour. I wish more places had the 45 minute rule, although it makes me suspicious that they might pre-cook some food!
