Everything’s Just Peachy

With a name like Cafe Peach, you would expect more peach items on the menu. The name also implies a little, homey hole-in-the-wall. Granted, Cafe Peach is a hole-in-the-wall, but it’s actually on the verge of trendy. Once inside, you see modern artwork by Robert Brady on display (and for sale), creating a colorful, vibrant environment. As for the food… The truth is, Peach Cafe is a typical, average breakfast and lunch venue with some atypical and non-average spins on favorites.

benedictOne of the most popular orders is the Cafe Peach Benedict. Instead of the traditional eggs over canadian bacon and english muffins, Cafe Peach gives you the option of poached or over easy eggs on top a generous portion of country ham and hickory maple waffle. A very creamy hollandaise sauce covers the whole entree. The waffles were excellent, pefectly crispy if you eat it right away. After a while, the hollandaise does soften the waffles. The ham is flavorful and lean. Even though this is a very large order of food, I find it slightly disappointing that no side orders were offered with the entree. The eggs, waffles, and ham go very well together, but there really should have been something sweet to counter the saltiness of the entree.

omeletteI also tried the asapargus, goat cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes omelette. I knew I would like order, as I do enjoy the contrast of different flavors mixed together. The creamy texture of the goat cheese, the sweetness of the sun-dried tomatoes, and the saltiness of the omelette in general complemented each other well. The omelette comes with a couple slices of toast and your choice of a side order. All breads served are from La Brea Bakery. I was a little stuck on choosing a side order. The two favorites at Cafe Peach are the breakfast potatoes and the bourbon sweet potatoes. I went with the former, which is russet potatoes with scallions, dill, and cream. The waitress brought me a small serving of the bourbon sweet potatoes to sample. It is a very unique side order and tastes more like dessert than a side dish. The sweet potatoes have been mashed with butter, sugar, and more than just a splash of bourbon.

Located in Monrovia, convenient to shops and the Krikorian theater, Cafe Peach is a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch. Cafe Peach just celebrated a one-year anniversary, and if the food continues to be this good, this little spot will definitely grow.
