Learn About Wine is hosting another wine tasting event at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. We covered their Napa Vintners Tasting earlier this year. Next Monday, June 12th, they are hosting the New Zealand Wine Growers for a night of wine and food:

Embark on your own journey through ‘middle earth’, savoring the unique wines of New Zealand from a range of our diverse landscapes, perfectly paired with freshly shucked oysters, Cervena Venison and the company of attending Kiwi winemakers.

To help promote the event, Learn About Wine is offering la.foodblogging readers Two Free VIP Tickets to the event which allows early entry to the event so that you can fill your glass before anyone else.

In order to win the tickets, leave a comment in this entry which answers the following question:

What will you name your Middle Earth Wine?

In other words, using the theme from Tolkien’s Middle Earth come up with a catchy, creative name for a bottle of wine. For example: Gandalf’s Grenache or Middle Earth Merlot. If you are rusty on your Tolkein references, check here, here or here for some inspiration.

Enter as often as you like, we will accept submissions until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 8th. You must leave a valid email address with your comment so that we can contact you if you win.

If you would rather skip the Lord of the Rings geekery, you can also purchase tickets here.

    Ancient Entish Vines
    Mourvedre
    A-lalla-lalla-rumba-kamanda-lindor-burúme County
    2000
    Fangorn Forest

The 2000 Ancient Vines Mourvedre draws from a wide selection of our oldest, most historic and slowest-moving Mourvedre blocks, all of which are over 1000 years in age. These special vineyards consistently produce fruit of stunning
concentration and longevity. The lots that we branch-selected for the 2000 blend showed an added degree of ripeness and dimension that is the result of sensitive farming practices, the singular Onodrim terrior, and a unique cooling band of air that flows in from the Brandywine and Anduin Rivers. By naturally restricting yields to 2 to 3 tons per acre (a record year for these roving vineyards), our old vines achieve sublime expression of the dark, dusty berry fruit quality that is so characteristic of our Ancient Entish Vines Mourvedre.

Enjoy this wine now or cellar for 500 to 700 years.

    Saruman of Many Colours
    Black Label

The first award Saruman Black Label ever won was the Jimmy Sauron Trophy, so there was a certain sense of palantir when, after two millenia without claiming the coveted claret jug, this great wine won the most competitive Sauron in history.

From its very first vintage in 1949 the philosophy behind Black Label has always been brilliantly simple: it would always be dominated by the noble cabernet sauvignon and would always be sourced from the best vineyards in Isengard. There was never a strict adherence to a particular vineyard or varietal blend - the year and the Uruk-hai would dictate the wine’s final composition. Over the years the Black Label has relied upon the Rohan Valley, Moria Vale, Fangorn Creek and of course the Angren River Valley for its fruit.

The Black Label is traditionally released from its spell fourty years after vintage so the wine has had appropriate bottle maturation before being presented to the world of Men.

    Stryder

This is the kind of red I like to drink with a simple loaf of Lemdas bread after a hard day’s travel through the Mines of Moria. But you don’t have to be the heir of Isulduir to enjoy it. Slainte mhath.

    Legolas
    2001
    Chardonnay
    Tom Bombadil and Elrond Estate
    Rivendell Ridge

There’s plenty of bright Gondorian sunshine in our Chardonnay, evident in its crisp, light texture and impeccable balance. The rich personality of the lesser-known, highly aromatic Valinor grape adds an elvish touch of inspired immortality to our Chardonnay and yields wine a-quiver full of character.

“When we set out to produce our wines in Gondoria, we agreed on creating stylish blended wines that display beautiful color, delightful aromas and great concentration and that all these elements should be harmonious and in balance. In short, our mission is to create distinctive Gondorian wines that would appeal to any of the orders of Elves.”

“We believe we are on the right path with our delicious Legolas Gondorian blended wines - as were the compatriots of the Fellowship of the Ring.”

    Rohirrim Horse-Blood Claret 2003
    Anduin Creek
    White Mountain Wines

Mostly Merlot, with quite a bit of Cabernet Franc and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Rohirrim Horse-Blood Claret is a clear, deep sanguine color with touches of rufus cherry. On the soft, velvety nose, the balance is harmonized between leather, straw and fresh mud. Fruits, like blackcurrant, cranberry and cherry, evolve on the palate and linger with a colt-like freshness. Pairs well with venison.
