LAX - Terminal 1 - Eaturna

I never thought I’d say this, but I got some tasty food at the airport.

I’ve been spoiled by JetBlue the past couple of years. At the JFK terminal they have a little cafe that sells wholesome and tasty meals to take on the plane with you. I’ve gotten sandwiches, hummus plates and pastries there. And it just made me want something for traveling in the opposite direction.

I fly USAirways a lot because they’re the only ones to do a non-stop to Pittsburgh and I usually just fast (okay, that sound extreme, it’s only a four hour flight). But I want to buy something to take on the plane, there just wasn’t anything that fit my level of pickiness at LAX.

Enter Eaturna in Terminal 1. It’s tucked way in the back of the little food court when you get through security with a larger sign for Naked Juice than for the fine sandwiches.

They focus on low fat, organic and veggie friendly premade meals.

I had an organic turkey and provolone sandwich on wheat that was fresh and tasty, although the cheese was soft and more like havarti than provolone. It also had no condiments on it, which is the way I prefer my sandwiches (no mayo please!). At 400 or so calories it was pretty filling.

My husband had a BBQ chicken & slow-roasted onion in a whole-wheat wrap. At about 230 calories he still found it satisfying and much lower in sodium than mine.

We shared a pricey but very good Belgian chocolate brownie for dessert.

They were pricey - at about $9.00 each but far better than the $5 boxes of cardboard served on the plane.

The only other think I wish is that the packaging were a bit more spare. It was hard cramming both items in their oversized takeout plastic containers into my carry on bag, and I’d left plenty of room.

They’ve also got a location in the Burbank Pavillions. I found their food pretty bland in general, although their sweets are yummy!

That’s great! I should fly more often. :)

I studied in Pgh for three years, and let me tell you, all those years of salads WITH french fries, melted cheese and creamy dressing (it’s a local thing) or Primanti Brothers sandwiches after 2 am put a little extra “baggage” on me. ;) But Shadyside had some nice restaurants!

Veggiegal - I think I know what you mean about bland and that might be because many of their products are low sodium (which my husband prefers).

Urban - I finally had a Primanti on this most recent trip back. I never went in there because I didn’t eat meat when I was in grad school but happily found that they make a fried egg sandwich that I would have loved back then. (No cole slaw or thousand island dressing on it, thankyouverymuch.)

That’s a good tip, although my long term flights (meaning not Southwest to the bay area) tend to be on American and I usually end up with a chicken caeser salad from Starbucks or TGIF. Edible, but unremarkable.

Sorry folks but the prior posts must be a PR team-this is the worst food on the Planet. I love the concept. I eat meat/no meat/vegan and this is the cheapest foodstuffs to get the largest profit margin. I was told that I must not be used to eating “heathy”. I love food and life but… to have a business solely based on a marketing campaign is well… less than nice for those of us who love food AND life.

^ You don’t say why you think the food is so terrible. Please be specific.

Hi John- interesting-i eat meat/no meat/vegan too and i specifically made a trip to Burbank ( i live in Studio City) to try and thought the food was suprisingly tasty. And im picky!(and not part of any PR team) I had some of the of bbq beef, the curry chicken with fruit, and a bunch of little tastes of other stuff and was liked or loved it all. i didnt care for only one thing- a soy meat/macaroni dish. I shared with my husband and teenage son and they loved it too. is the airport the same food?
