Franks on Fairfax

Between La Brea and La Cienega along streets such as 3rd and Beverly, there are cafes and breakfast places a plenty.
There are definitely “destination” breakfast places in Los Angeles and I’m sure our readership and writership would gladly share their recommendations for the special occasion breakfast.
But what about your favorite routine breakfast place?
Where do you go when you want no fuss breakfast: good food, a cup of coffee, a newspaper to read and no hassle in terms of getting a table and getting to the location?
On Fairfax just south of 3rd Street is Franks.
On the menu of Frank’s it says formerly Frank’s Charbroiler.
I haven’t been in the neighborhood long enough to know the previous incarnation of the restaurant.
My usual routine is to get one of their breakfast plates and coffee and read the sports section of the LA Times.

On this day, the breakfast crowd in addition to chowing down on their breakfasts were watching live World Cup coverage on channel 34.

On this day, my breakfast was chorizo and eggs with hash browns, beans and corn tortilla. Ten dollars tax and tip.

i have lived around the corner from this place for 4 years and it’s never managed to pull me in. as you mentioned, there are a million breakfast places within walking of distance of this one, and very few of them aren’t a huge scene. so for the no fuss breakfast, i usually go to CJ’s cafe on Pico (around Hauser). Perfect greasy spoon diner, solid huevos rancheros and great coffee.

My vote for the no-wait, eggs on a plate greasy spoon on the Westside is Rae’s, on Pico, near the 10 and 405 interchange. Try the Hobo Breakfast: 3 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, sausage, ham, hash-browns, and two pancakes. It costs $5.50, it’s satisfying, and it will hold you for the rest of the day.

I have been to Frank’s 20+ times in the past 2 years. Frank’s IS one of the great undiscovered places for breakfast and lunch. The food has been good every time, the tortillas are fresh, the food is made to order, the horchata is authentic, they will make any of the items to go, they accept credit cards… The quality is excellent!
