Was listening to KPCC this morning and heard Larry Mantle interviewing Jane and Michael Stern.

What a delightful couple!

What a job they have: traveling all over the USA to write about food?

The Stern’s have a new book on their food travels with the title, Two for the Road : Our Love Affair with American Food .

Book’s first sentence:
Our first date was over a white clam pizza at Pepe’s Pizzeria on Wooster Square in New Haven, Connecticut, and it was instantly apparent as we gazed into each other’s eyes across the thin-crusted Neapolitan pie, speckled with tiny, tender clams and frosted with olive oil, that we shared a passion for garlic.

This is their second newest book and it is a memoir of their food travels.

Their first earlier book was their USA food guide, Roadfood.

Amazon’s book description:
Now in its sixth edition, Roadfood has been called “a bible for motorists seeking mouth-watering barbecue or homemade pie by USA Today. This indispensable guide is bigger and better than ever, covering nearly 600 of the country’s best local eateries from Maine to California. With more than 175 completely new listings and updates of old favorites, the new Roadfood offers an extended tour of the most affordable, most enjoyable dining options along America’s highways and back roads.

They also maintain a web page Roadfood.com.
