I like the night life, I like to boogie…
Friday, July 28, 2006 16:55So a good friend is in town visiting and wants to see some of the cool, trendy nightlife places. As I’ve been out of state for a year, I have to admit I’m a little out of touch with the happening spots. Readers, I need your recommendations! Name your favorite after-dark bars, restaurants, etc. or name ones you heard are good. Just remember one thing - the place you name must have good food and/or good drinks!

Tiger Lily in Los Feliz! The first and only time we went was during it’s first week of being open. It use to be the old Hollywood Cafe, and Cafe Bliss (same owner of Electric Lotus). I’m not sure who the proprietor is today, but chef Edward Brik is not only talented in the kitchen, but he’s a very sweet person. I haven’t blogged about it because, well, I don’t have any visuals to go with it. Yeah, I know…sometimes a post can do without the foodporn. Oh, and the bar looks beautiful, but haven’t tried it’s drinks yet.
The Mor Bar in Santa Monica makes the best Red-head Sluts! I’m not much of a drinker, but when we’re there, Michael insists. Besides, it really is a tasty little concotion.

Just dined at the Sofitel Hotel (right opposite the Beverly Centre) and noticed that their bar looked pretty cool.
One of my fave bars is the Standard Downtown Hotel. Get there before 7pm to avoid the $20 cover charge and relax upstairs on the various lounges, waterbeds etc and watch the sun go down and the city light up.
Great scratch margaritas at El Coyote and cadillacs at Mexicali.

I think that it’s fun to take out of town guests up to Yamashiro for drinks. The view is killer and it has enough of an LA feel without begin completely elitist or uncomfortable. I particularly like the Lychee Martini.

I recently found out about Arsenal in West LA (Pico & Bundy), which is part bar, part restaurant. The 1/2 Roasted Chicken & Petit Filet Mignon were both intensely delicious. Just as sensuous was the drink, Key Lime Pie(Licor 43, Lime Juice, Whipped Cream, Graham Cracker Rim). It was as if I had it as dessert!
The ambience is interesting… guns and “arsenal” adorn the darkly lit walls. It was almost impossible to read the menu. Service was decent, but not great. After our meal, my friend and I walked over to the bar where the jukebox was about to get taken over by the night’s DJ. Admission is always free as far as I know.

Go to magnolia for dinner, then pop on over to the Bowery right next door for drinks. Or down the street to (sunset and bronson) “the bar” for a rocking good time.

These suggestions all sound great! I’m so ready to check out these places before I head out of town again.
BTW, we accidentally wound up finding a new spot, too. Bodega Wine Bar at the Paseo Center in Pasadena. Pricy alcohol, but good food. Features include apple and brie pizza!
