The inaugural LA Wine & Food Festival is happening from August 26th-August 27th at the Los Angeles Convention Center. To help promote the event, we are giving away two pairs of tickets for the event.

In addition to demonstrations and presentations, there will be gourmet food tastings. Appetizers, candy and chocolates, cheeses, coffee, tea, and cocoa, nuts, jams and preserves, meats and pates, oils and vinegars, seafood and caviar, sauces and spreads and much more, will be available. See a list of exhibitors at the Festival website.

Over 100 wineries will also be exhibiting and pouring tastes of their wines.

In honor of Cat Cora, who will be at the festival on Saturday the 26th, we are having a “give yourself an Iron Chef name” contest. Yes, I know that the Iron Chefs don’t use creative names, but don’t you think they should? Instead of Iron Chef Morimoto, maybe he should be Sushi Sensei or The Kobe Beef Batallion Chief.

Here is what you need to do in order to win a pair of tickets to the event ($120 value):

  • Leave a comment for this post with your Iron Chef Name, be creative! What would you like to be called in Kitchen Stadium?
  • Make sure that you leave a valid email address with your comment so that we can contact you if you win. Your email will only be used to contact you if you win.
  • Enter as often as you like, but please leave an individual comment for each of your entries (do not leave multiple names in one comment)
  • Leave your comment no later than 5:00pm, Sunday, August 13th.
  • One pair of tickets will be given to the person who comes up with the most creative name (as decided by me)
  • One pair of tickets will be given to a person drawn at random (this is why each entry needs to be an individual comment)
  • Winners will be announced on August 14th and contacted via email

Of course, if you do not want to participate in the contest, but do want to attend the Festival, you can purchase tickets online, they are $65/person or $120/couple.

Good luck!

I’m always encouraging people to make up a golf name for themselves. To do this you take the name of an animal as your first name and the name of a golf club as your last name. This method was adopted by one Eldrick Woods, who came up with the moniker, Tiger Woods. On the course I’m known as Mouse Putter (I admit not quite as intimidating as Tiger). For my Iron Chef name I think the same formula makes sense. Cat Cora was on the right track, but didn’t use a cooking implement for her last name. I’d name her Cat “apple” Corer. My iron chef name will be:
    Lion Cast-Iron Skillet
I think it’s both intimidating and doesn’t cause cancer like teflon.

    Great prize, thanks for offering.

“Cat Cora was on the right track”? Umm, if you watched the show you would know Cat Cora is her real name.

I like to use different types of wines in my cooking. Instead of just using standard cooking wine or a generic red wine, this gives the food much more flavor and can create very unique dishes! Thus, I would be called…
