Lazy Summer Weekend

August is for laziness. Folks go on vacation, the days are warm and sunny, and the Farmers Markets are overflowing with bounty.

For the first time in a while, we don’t have major plans for the weekend and I’m looking forward to some good old fashion laziness. Without time pressures, we could go to a restaurant for breakfast and linger, not being rushed to eat and run.

My question for you, where do you like to go to eat and sit and relax? Do you have preferred spots that are comfortable and don’t make you feel like you have to skidaddle?

The places that come to my mind are Urth, Coral Tree and Lazy Daisy. Casula dining joints with a mellow vibe, although Urth can get pretty crowded and during prime time has time limits on how long you can sit at a table. Definitely not relaxing. Bagel Nosh is also a good spot to sit and read the paper.

So, leave a comment, where do you go to be lazy?

For a lazy dinner I go to Metro Cafe on Washington Blvd. in Culver City. The food is good, and they are happy to let you linger forever.

I love the patio at birds. Drink some Stellas on tap, have some roasted chicken…

Well, for me, Lazy means staying at home and ordering Cheebo or Wild Orchid Thai.

I used to like to spend lazy summer evenings at the bar at Authentic Cafe with bartender Josh drinking mojitos, but Josh is gone now and it’s not the same. :(

Zephyr in Pasadena…an old craftsman bungalow on Colorado converted into a cafe/coffee shop that serves the best panini and crepes. I usually get their Tea Hee Hee, iced tea with a splash of peach syrup.

Also, this is in East Pasadena. So head a bit further down past old town, past Lake, past PCC…into, dare I say it, the real Pasadena.

I usually end up at Alcove on Hillhurst in Los Feliz on Sundays having a cafe au lait and a slice of cake.
