Also, we found out that the name change was due to an ownership shuffle. I can't remember the exact situation, but I believe that the Santa Monica location is independent of the others. If you look on the Cafe Bizou website the Watergarden location isn't listed anymore.

I think you nailed it, good food, questionable service and AARP ambiance.

I still like eating there and will go again. Last time we ate there, I had the Bouillabaisse (awesome) and so did a couple others at the table. When the expediter brought out two servings, he poured half of my broth on my friend while he put down his serving. The server pretty much didn't take responsibility for it and I had to request more broth because most of mine was in my friend's clothes and seat.

I have had similar situations as you with aloof servers.

But, as I said, we will still go back and the food value is hard to beat. Glad you mentioned the veggie plate which is suprisingly tasty and a hearty meal, especially with the dipping sauce.

I also like their salmon dishes, I think I prefer the one with potato scales. You didn't mention their Dollar Soup or Dollar Salad, another good bargain along with the $2 corkage you mentioned.
