Santa Monica Farmers Market Report For 8/30/06
Wednesday, August 30, 2006 13:16I just got in from the market and it was bursting with goodness. Fall is starting to show itself in the fruit being offered. I only made it halfway down the market, but in that time I saw 3 stands selling pears, and one stand with apples (both of which were not out in much force last week). Still lots of summer goodness to be had, plenty of peaches, nectarines, and plums. More grape varieties were out this week than last week. Plenty of peppers and tomatoes for sale, as well as a large variety of squash and melons. Not too many berries to be purchased, which is always sad for me. White corn was being sold at a number of stands, and lots of beans and peas for sale- I even saw someone selling black eyed peas. I picked up some peaches, nectarines, zucchini, blue lake beans, spinach, Bartlett pears, green grapes (Thompson’s) and red grapes (look like some kind of globe). I also bought a fruit labeled “dynamite something or other”- it is basically a pluot.
