Labor Day Weekend, A BBQ Holiday

Labor Day Weekend, like Memorial Day Weekend is unofficially a BBQ holiday. We have not one, but two BBQ’s to attend. Rumor has it that the first BBQ will be to test out the Tri-Tip from Trader Joe’s. Hopefully it is as good as their carne asada. For the second round, I think we will move from turf to surf and I will take a trip over to Santa Monica Seafood to see what is cheap not outrageous. A couple months ago I BBQ’d some black cod (it’s on the safe list) and it was delicious, black cod really holds up to the grill.

What are you grilling, where are you getting it, are you eating out instead?

Just came back from the Vons…got some New York Steak on sale, some sockeye salmon, and some red snapper. Gonna season up the steaks tonight and let nature do its job. I love the weekends.

    Hey Guys,

Have you heard of a place in Westwood for sandwiches called Food of the Gods?

    Thanks!

I believe that you are talking about Damon and Pythias (website).

I like to get their build your own salads there and the sandwiches are good. My only complaint is that sometimes the chicken on my salad has been really dry. Other than that, it’s a good lunch spot and they have great iced tea.

Did you catch the “safe” fish list in the LA Times’ health section this week? They compiled a short list of common varieties and their avg. levels of mercury. Check it out if you missed it: http://www.latimes.com/features/health/la-he-fish4sep04,0,3015878.story?page=3&coll=la-home-health

Unfortunately the fish with the least contamination seem to be the blandest (like perch, tilapia, farm-raised salmon).
