Their espresso operation has gotten quite a facelift, thanks (I believe) to Eton from the now-defunct Tao Organic. Gone are bitter, astringent shots; aromatic crema now sits atop each cup (which can now be porcelain if you wish), revealing a full-bodied nectar underneath. Best shot in LA since I stopped by Caffe Luxxe in Santa Monica. Stopped by Groundwork today after the Hollywood market. Alas, SLOtown does not have a Groundworks, but we have something called Higer Grounds and if I close my eyes I can almost smell the roasty toasty aroma.... it is... fair trade, organic, and shade-grown coffee heaven. I think they're going to start offering some more boutique coffees by the cup, which are certainly worth a try.
