Late Night

Where do LAFB readers go for late night food?

I saw in the Los Angeles Times online this item on late-night dining.

Chris Barton, an LAT staff writer, profiled the following:
101 Coffee Shop 6145 Franklin Ave., L.A., (323) 467-1175.
Fred 62 1840 N. Vermont Ave., L.A., (323) 667-0062.
Swingers 8020 Beverly Blvd., L.A., (323) 653-5858.
Sitton’s NoHo Diner 11329 Magnolia Blvd., North Hollywood. (818) 761-3341.
The Brite Spot 1918 W. Sunset Blvd., L.A., (213) 484-9800.
Earl’s Home Cookin’ 807 N. Tustin St., Orange, (714) 639-8590.
Original Pantry Cafe 877 S. Figueroa St., L.A., (213) 972-9279.

There is also a longer list on the side-bar to the article.

As for me, if I’m up past 11PM and in the mood for food, I go to Canters which garnered a one-sentence description in Barton’s side-bar.

How about you? Where do you go for late night food?

Canter’s Deli 419 N. Fairfax Ave., L.A., (323) 651-2030.

  1. Fred 62 and across-the-street House of Pies if I happen to be in the West area… O-Bar in WeHo, and of course, Pink’s if I feel like a coronary that day.

but since I live in SG Valley (the “other” valley), I can have my pick of any of the Hong Kong style cafes that’s 24/7 for fried rice & noodles or that obscenely yummy baked pork chop in tomato sauce over rice. Or maybe the Diner on Main in Alhambra.

  2. Depends how late you’re talking. For late-ish, I like the bar menu at Lucques (after 9:30 weeknights, 10 on weekends I believe). Real late, it’s always Brite Spot or Fred 62, or sometimes places in Thai Town–most are open v. late.

  4. Definitely depends on how late … my late night pecking order is Doughboys, which is open until midnight, then Swingers, which is open until 4 a.m. most nights, and if it’s even more desperate than that, or I just can’t be bothered to go as far as Swingers, then it’s Damiano’s, which is open until 6 a.m.

  5. 101 Cafe, Fred 62, Swingers (uh oh… I have been typecast). Also, Kate Mantellini’s when I want a martini plus really expensive mediocre food.

  7. Next time I need a late night meal, I am going to try a new wine bar called Bin 8945, located at, uh, 8945 Santa Monica Blvd, cnr Robertson.

I believe they serve dinner as late as 1.30am.

  8. I just moved to LA from NYC where you can get “nice” food and sushi at lots of places from 2am to 6am. In LA, it seems like most late, late night spots are diners or have limited menus of burgers and individual pizza’s. Any place to get “nice” food and sushi in LA at like 2am?? Inquiring minds would love to know!

  9. You will probably not find anything like you had in NYC Lisa, but one “nice” place that is open 24hrs is the Pacific Dining Car. There is one location Downtown and one in Santa Monica.

You can see their Menu online, dinner and breakfast are both available 24hrs.

LA, in general, shuts down a bit earlier than NYC. Hope that you find a some good spots!

  10. Pho Cafe in Silverlake serves cheap, fast, healthy (both meat and vegan!), DELISH food til midnight. its a perfect place to go post-show, pre-bar for a quick light snack (with beers!) so that you dont get too terribly sloshed…

  11. Oh yeah — the Standard Hotel on Sunset (and presumably also the one Downtown) has an all-night diner which I recall had fairly decent, slightly upscale fare.

Try to avoid the steep hotel valet parking fee, though they do validate.
