Ate dinner at Pizzeria Mozza last night and imagine our shock and horror when my mother-in-law found a broken piece of glass in one of our appetizers (the eggplant capponata, if you are wondering which appetizer!). Luckily my mother-in-law was not injured/. The staff was properly concerned and apologized profusely, but not exactly what you'd expect from a restaurant of this quality. Pizza was good, but be careful before biting down!

We were a party of 6. As we arrived, our table was being set and we sat right away. It was a very busy evening and especially so for a Sunday. The downtown like atmosphere was great, but i could see how my mother who suffers from R.P. and could be a few other vision problems would not like the dim lighting. The service was great and really friendly. Its hard to be happy with a place that has a lot of hype and this place was sure to have alot of it. reservations are a must if you plan on coming in between 5-10 pm (on our way out I asked the host for the next available reservation and she said they are booked for the next 4 weeks!) We had amazing appetizers which I think stole the show from the pizzas. With all the attention on the pizza, they really took us by surprise. It reminds me of a trip to Argentina where everyone just raved about how great the steaks will be and all i can remember is the pizza and ice cream. No steak in Argentina could compare to Mastros, Via Veneto, Ruth's Chris or Dan Tana's. Also at Mozza, I was happy to see Will who was the somelier at Valentinos on Pico whome we met at my mother in law's birthday extravaganza a year ago who matched each course to a wonderful bottle. This was the first pizza joint I have ever been to that has a somelier. Its not cheap, but if you cut the wine, you could have a very nice evening for two and spend less than 75 dollars. I keep hearing about this pizza place in Phoenix called Pizza Bianco that is supposed to be the best pizza in America, but im affraid it will be like the story of the steaks in Argentina....

happy new year to all... Burt

I went last weeked. It's pricey but the pizza was very good. I had the fughi and tyme while my special lady friend had goat cheese, leak and bacon. We also had the cod on bruschetta which was also very good. Personally, I prefer a NY style pizza (Village Pizza best NY style in LA) but still enjoyed the pizza at Mozza very much so.

We weren't able to go on a Tuesday, so your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come out to LA on a Tuesday and go to Mozza and order the crispy duck legs. It's supposed to be the best thing on the menu, and only available on Tuesday. Inquiring minds want to know!

I'm so jealous. After working my way through two of Batali's cook books, I'm really jonesing to try some of his recipes prepared by a professional hand.
