Free Wine From HBO

Starting today through Saturday, HBO is sponsoring a promotion for one of their shows where certain restaurants around town will be serving free wine.

According to this article:

But rather than have restaurant servers introduce the product by saying “And our house wine tonight is brought to you by HBO,” consumers will be presented with a polite card at their tables: “A taste of ‘Rome’ awaits you. Ask server for details.”

I haven’t been able to find out which restaurants are serving, other than “If you happen to be dining Italian in New York, Los Angeles or Chicago Jan. 10-13, you may get a glass of consumer marketing to go with your pasta.”

So, the hunt is on, who is serving the free Cabernet (which is not Italian, it’s a California vintage).

Update Eater LA has come through with the list of participating joints.

If anyone gets the “free” wine, let us know how it goes.

what’s next, an offer to get riddled with bullets to promo the Sopranos finale? ;)

I’m curious which restaurants have they chosen to partner with for this as well.

I got the half bottle at the Stinking Rose last night. There where no cards on the table, I had to ask for the wine, the sever wanted to know how I knew about it. From the looks of it they where only giving it out to select people. We only saw one other couple the whole night get one, there must have been 10 tables that we saw leave without one. I wonder what the profile is on who they give it to? You are not allowed to drink the wine at the resturant.
I took a picture of the bottle and it’s linked from my name.

It’s BV Coastal Cab, it’s a nice wine and on the menu and Stinking Rose.

thats odd, if you just paste it into a brower and hit enter it will come up, i think it’s my anti-image stealing software that is doing it.

nice post Jonah! BV coastal is decent wine, usually $7.99 at the stores. They could’ve used $2 buck chuck instead.

At Louise it’s $7 for the half-bottle. Not free, but a good price.
But it’s really stupid to have the label say “A taste of Rome” when it contains a California Cab.
At least they could have used an Italian wine - like Barolo, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, etc.
