Santa Monica Farmers Market Report For 6/20/07
Wednesday, June 20, 2007 10:05Just got back from the Santa Monica Wednesday Farmers Market. Summer is in full bloom! Lots of berries, beans and stone fruit. I saw strawberries, ollaliberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Plenty of peaches, nectarines, plums and pluots. All varieties of beans–many stands had Blue Lake green beans, some had sugar snap peas, fava beans. I couldn’t find any in-shell English Peas, which was a bummer. Some peppers started to show up- I saw Anaheim’s and bells. A few stands had white corn. Lots of cherry tomatoes and some larger tomatoes, however I know we will not see the large varieties and amounts of heirlooms until later in the summer. Cherries are still out but some cherry stands have closed up shop, so the cherry season is drawing to a close. Asparagus, carrots, beets, onions, plenty of zucchini and squash. I picked up some green beans, sugar snap peas, nectarines, peaches, pluots, apricots, strawberries, and some sweet heart cherries (only 2 bags left when I got to the stand). Summer is definitely here!
