Yummy! When You Don’t Feel Like Going Out

I haven’t really had anything to post about recently because I just haven’t gone anywhere. I had my last day of work on Friday (Anyone looking for an employee?). I spent the last month frantically trying to get everything in order at the office and then train my replacement, and then I spent the last week being ill. Suffice it to say, there wasn’t a lot of dining out during this period.

But being too tired/sick to cook dinner or even go get it, I was able to revisit my good old stand-by, yummy.com. And I thought, “Why isn’t this good enough for a blog posting?”

Well, actually, it is. Yummy.com is grocery delivery service, like Pink Dot or the short-lived kozmo.com. But Yummy stands out to me by having product that’s actually worth paying someone to deliver to my door. They have a variety of grocery products and offer premium brands, like Evolution fresh soup, and Izze soda, and local favorites, such as La Brea bakery bread.

They also have sandwiches and salads in their deli section. The above pictured sandwich is their mozzarella and pesto sandwich, described as follows: “Fresh bocconcini mozzarella is sliced and placed on a bed of mixed greens, sliced tomatoes and fresh basil. Served on our rustic roll with all natural basil pesto.” Sounds good, right? It was good. Especially since I could customize it by ordering a package of prosciutto and adding to my sandwich.

Seriously, Yummy has been my friend since it’s inception. They have kept me getting my nutrients during the times when I am too busy/stressed/incapacitated to get them myself. In the thick of final exams, bar exam, busy work weeks, whatever the thing that consumes all my energy, it’s nice to have an alternative to the standard Pizza/asian delivery dichotomy. I can get fresh fruit, and salads. I can get dinner, and supplies for the next few days. I can even get some household supplies that I am missing, while I am feeding myself.

I love Yummy, so please everyone use it. I don’t want it to go away!

What’s their delivery footprint? East Valley, perchance?

No unfortunately. It goes from Santa Monica all the way over to Hancock Park, though so that’s a good chunk of the city.

You can enter in your zip code on the website to see if they deliver to you.

They are fabulous and very fast! Delivery people are nice, courteous and more often than not, quite hunky. Love the sandwiches and they delivery booooozzzze!

You can also go into the store if you want–they’re on Pico just west of 14th in Santa Monica. I live about a block away, and it’s a really handy place to walk to to pick up something (my old neighborhood had the Mexican produce truck that would park in front of our apartment, which I miss). Though someone in my building once had Yummy deliver to them!

This is great to know about - just in time for cold and flu season! I see deliveries from Yummy in my future.

I still miss the dot-com era days of web-based grocery delivery services. Those were pretty handy from time to time.

Wow, that looks like the best grocery store sandwich that I have ever seen! And it comes straight to your door? Thank you so much for posting this - I have never heard of them before.

I ordered the veggie sandwich and a few other groceries on a Sunday afternoon and it was at my house in SEVEN minutes - no joke. I live in Hancock Park. It was excellent and very fresh. Will definitely order there again.
