Who knew? Bread pudding back by popular demand!
Thursday, October 4, 2007 20:29Don’t know about you but I had to ask someone what the flag on the left of the flyer was for. Yes, I’m a typically geopolitically challenged American.
Most of us know the flag on the right as belonging to the United Kingdom. The one on the left is for England.
I’m also told that bread pudding is a noted item of English cuisine.
Anyway, the cafeteria at the UCLA Medical Center Hospital had these flyers up in a number of locations trumpeting the return of this English item. Alas, by the time I got to the cafeteria today, I was too late as not a pudding was to be found.
So dear gentle LAFB readers, where should one go to have this dish if one is not near Cafe Med?
And where should I go to compare what I eventually try at Cafe Med?
Update: A quick web search yielded this recipe on the Today show for bread and butter pudding from Darren McGrady who was Princess Diana’s chef.

I’m curious to find out about places that serve bread pudding too — however, the recipe is very simple and easily adaptable, so you might try making your own. (Heck, I’m bringing an Asian Pear version of this for a potlucky thing tomorrow).

I’m not a big fan of bread pudding, but I did enjoy what was served at The Minotaure in Playa del Rey. Theirs is dished up very hot with sweet caramel and chocolate topping. They claim to have the best bread pudding in town, and I can’t say that I disagree.

Urth has a really delish bread pudding–a bit untraditional I suspect, but really good.

The bread pudding at Harold and Belle’s was the best I’d had in some time.
