Some DineLA Reviews
Tuesday, January 29, 2008 20:30Reviews are rolling in about the DineLA Restaurant Week. For the most part, the reviews are positive, but there have been a few SNAFUs.
- Commenter Stephen had the menu and price switched on him at Tiara. DineLA responds, somewhat explaining the mix up.
- A Chowhounder hits up Table8 and finds that the DineLA menu has changed, decides to order from the normal menu instead and is underwhelmed
- Dig Lounge tries Ruth’s Chris where you are essentially paying for the steak and getting the sides and, appetizer and dessert for free
- More Chowhounders weigh in. Simon LA good for lunch. Patina pleasant but forced to eat outside. Lunch at L’Opera in Long Beach is a satisfying treat. Dakota is “shockingly” good.
- Gourmet Pigs has to wait a bit for their reservation, but are comped a fondue at Luna Park. Dinner is nice, but they are out of tarts (my favorite dessert there).
- LAist has a $35 lunch for $22 at Ford’s Filling Station, says “Was the prix-fixe meal worth the price? Absolutely.”
- Added - Gourmet Pigs has an “excellent” meal at Grace. Complementary sparkling water, but $10 extra to have the wild boar.
I will post my reviews after I try a couple spots.

Wow, is this going to be commonplace? All this bait-and-switch reminds me of last year, when I had such a terrible restaurant experience with San Pellegrino’s dine out day that I’d care not to divulge the details for fear of being charged with libel. I’m crossing my fingers.

Thanks for collecting the info. As long as people are eating out more than they would normally, it probably will be considered successful. I’d like to hear about someone who tried a restaurant they’d never been to (simply because it was DineLA), then returned for their regular menu in the future.

I think that the event will be a success. I actually appreciate that they simply call it a restaurant promotion, rather than loosely tying it to a charity. It’s not that I’m against charity, but often the charity gets a pittance, while the restaurant rides the wave of publicity.
It’s a good point about comparing the DineLA menu to the normal menu. I’m actually going to places that I haven’t been yet, so I would have to go back later.
