Shrimp lovers rejoice! Mariscos Chente is Here!
Saturday, January 31, 2009 11:33 8 CommentsI visited Mariscos Chente for the first time after being tipped off by this Chowhound thread about them. Boy, am I glad this is just a short drive from work. I’m definitely going to want to come back to try all of the shrimp dishes.
I ordered the Camaron a la Pimienta: shrimp in pepper [...]
Park’s BBQ
Monday, January 26, 2009 21:41 2 CommentsDating a vegan guy, it’s not everyday that I go to a Korean BBQ restaurant. When the BF actually agreed to go to Park’s BBQ for dinner this weekend, I jumped at the opportunity before he had a chance to change his mind.
We ordered the bibimbap with vegetables ($10) and told them to hold [...]
That’s Amore!
Sunday, January 4, 2009 1:48 No CommentsAfter reading about That’s Amore from QuarryGirl a few days ago, the BF and paid them a visit despite it being all the way in Cerritos — almost 30 miles away from our place.
That’s Amore is a pizza restaurant in the same plaza as the Korean Farmer’s Market at the corner of Carmenita and Artesia. [...]
Shanghai Xiao Chi
Monday, December 15, 2008 23:43 10 CommentsIt’s easy to miss this hole-in-the-wall restaurant with its generic name and bland red awning, but Shanghai Xiao Chi serves up tasty Shanghai dishes on par with that of better known Shanghai restaurants such as Mei Long Village.
We started off with a traditional Shanghai appetizer called kao fu. The kao fu was soft, chewy, [...]
Doomie’s Home Cookin
Sunday, November 9, 2008 19:15 5 CommentsTipped off by FoodEater’s post about Doomie’s Home Cookin, the BF and I braved LA traffic this afternoon to drive to Chinatown for lunch. Doomie’s Home Cookin’ is located upstairs in a bar called Roberto’s Club. You can either eat outside on the patio, or inside in the bar.
Otom Sushi-ya
Friday, October 24, 2008 14:58 2 CommentsI’m going to let you in on a little secret: Otom Sushi-ya. It’s no Sushi Zo or Urasawa, but it’s my go-to neighborhood place for sushi at lunch. Tucked behind a Ramada Inn and right by the 405 off-ramp, it’s easy to miss other than a plain sign that just says “Sushi-ya.”
On most [...]
Golden Triangle
Saturday, October 18, 2008 21:19 5 CommentsLocated in the sleepy area of old town Whittier is Golden Triangle, a family-run Burmese restaurant. The choice of location is strange; I don’t know of any major Burmese population in Whittier. Their menu consists of Thai, Chinese, Burmese, and even some Indian-influenced dishes. After talking to the owner, I found [...]
Noodle House aka Mian Hsiang Yuan
Monday, August 25, 2008 13:48 6 CommentsAlways up to try new places, the BF took my parents and I out to Mian Hsiang Yuan, a small dumpling restaurant in Monterey Park. For a place that specializes in made-to-order dumplings, they certainly picked an inaccurate American name. They do serve noodles, but their noodles were not made in-house.
We started off [...]
